Tank Removal

Our general process for removing old tanks is

  1. Pump out old fuel
  2. Cut access hole into tank
  3. Scrape excess buildup left in tank
  4. Remove remainder of tank
  5. Paint (customer preference) bilge

The corrosive characteristics of sea water takes its toll on Boat tanks. This boat tank was corroded by the sea water to the point where small holes/leaks were formed. Tanks like this have to be replaced. The red circle is hole found on the tank.

The Grand Banks wanted to upgrade their rusted old fuel tank to a new one. The boat was built around the fuel tank and the engine, making it impossible to remove the tank as one piece. The old tank, had to be cut up and removed in several smaller pieces. The red line is where the tank was cut. The outside of the tank is white and the inside is black.

Here the tank is removed, but the engine is still mounted. The red arrows in the picture point where the new tank will be installed. Its a tight squeeze.

These are the new fuel tanks that are going to replace the old fuel tank. Sometimes 2 large fuel tanks have to replaced by 6 smaller tanks in order to be installed with out removing the engine or cutting the frame of the boat.
